Himalayas - Greatest Mountains On Earth

The Himalayas not just inspire superlatives, they define superlatives. The Highest Mountain, Deepest Gorge,
Highest Plateau, The Longest Rock Face, and so on. They contain more unamed peaks that are higher then the
highest peaks in the rest of the world then number of peaks over 20000 ft. anywhere. The Karakoram range alone
has about 106 peaks over 7000 meters, while there is not one peak over that height in any other mountain range.
So when I say that there are 14 peaks over 8000 meters in the world, it'll come as no surprise that they are
all in the Himalayas - 4 in Kashmir, 9 in Nepal, and 1 in Sikkim Himalaya.

The word Himalaya is made of 2 words in Hindi - 'Him' which means snow, and 'Alaya' which means home.
Thus, the Himalayas are the "Home of Snow". And nowhere is it more apparent then when you are trudging up
the Khumbu Icefall upside of the Everest Base Camp - maneuvering through boulders of ice as big as
apartment blocks, and crossing over crevasses which according to local Sherpas "Go all the way to America".
